Mama Sarah and Mama Rebecca

Mama Sarah and Mama Rebecca are two of our weavers who are experts in weaving bilums from a particular natural fibre that is sourced from a special shrub that is different to other natural fibres from other parts of PNG. The weave for bilums made from this special shrub is very fine and soft.

This natural fibre is also used to make loincloth for men worn during traditional dancing called 'SingSing' in the Western Highlands Province of PNG.

We hope that what we do continues to encourage our people to keep alive traditional weaving techniques that have been passed down through many generations.
